Anurag Kashyap Talks About Going Through Depression, Heart Attack And Rehabilitation, Reveals, 'My Daughter Started Getting Rape Threats'
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has never shied away from talking about facing ups and downs in his personal life. He recently opened up about the dark phase when he underwent depression, a heart attack, and rehabilitation thrice. Anurag also revealed why he left Twitter for some time and revealed his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap received rape threats and suffered anxiety attacks. The director revealed how he dealt with mental health issues for more than three years.

Speaking with Indian Express, Anurag was quoted as saying, “This was the time I went off Twitter because my daughter started getting trolled, getting rape threats and she started getting anxiety attacks… So, I went off Twitter in August 2019 and I went to Portugal. I was shooting this (Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat) in London and then, when the whole Jamia Millia thing happened, I came back to India. I was like, ‘yeh mujh se bardaaasht nahin ho raha hai, koi kuchh bol nahin raha hai (I can’t bear it that no one is speaking up)’. The 50-year-old director further revealed that he went through an angioplasty in 2021 after suffering a heart attack. Talking about her daughter getting anxiety attacks, Kashyap stated, “And her anxiety started after those threats and things like that. Her anxiety like literally made me drop everything and run to the US, and she came back here. Other than her anxiety issues, she is just amazing.” 

On the professional front, Anurag recently helmed the mystery thriller ‘Dobaara’ which featured Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. The film was an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Mirage and was released on 19 August 2022.
